Sustainability

We are proud to be a certified member of Sustainable Winegrowing Australia, both in our vineyards and winery.

Sustainability is an integral part of our ethos at Hare's Chase. We have a strong connection to the land and the environment that we rely on to keep producing the wines we love sharing. From our work to protect native biodiversity to the use of soil moisture probes, solar energy and our efforts to establish water security. We look forward to sharing our ongoing journey in contributing to a sustainable wine growing industry.

... in the vineyards

Our vines are our most precious asset, rooted in Barossan soil that has sustained a culture and community of grape growing for generations.

To protect our vines we must first understand the native biodiversity that has nourished the land for thousands of years. By actively encouraging this biodiversity we welcome a balance that provides the soil and vines with nutrients and protection.

With changing climate conditions water security has become a necessary focus of sustainabilty in caring for the vines. This in turn has become somewhat of a passion for Winemaker, Matt Reynolds.

Matt's committment to the cause has led to upgrading our supplementary water infrastructure which ensures we can monitor the vines and deliver them the necessary requirements enabling best fruit, wine and vine outcomes.

The combination of Matt's intimate knowledge of the site and modern technology ensures the vines receive adequate irrigation without compromising this precious resource nor the health of the vines.

... in the winery

A minimalist approach to winemaking not only allows the characteristics of each vineyard and vintage to express itself through the finished product, but also allows an introspective view of the processes and their impact.

In the winery we operate a 30kW solar energy system and systems for the collection of rainwater minimising the dependence on external power and water. Waste water from the winery is collected and recycled.
