• If you are game...
  • & you can bubble!
  • Hare's Chase is for you.

2013 was the fifth driest growing season in the last 100 years in the Barossa. That is the mystery we all grapple with in this continually surprising wine industry. Hardly any winter rain, less than optimum bud burst, a dusty, dry summer and small bunches from struggling vines. Yet the wines are deep coloured, rich (yet never jammy), balanced and structured.

We're only musing over this because the 2013 vintage reds we are just releasing at Hare's Chase are about as good as we've seen.

2013 will be remembered for three proud outcomes at Hare's Chase.

First our new Shiraz called Ironscraper, a statement about the grey-brown rusty coloured Pre-Cambrian ironstones that litter this ten-year-old block, which has just reached maturity. It’s also a tribute to the tough life that our hares endure, excavating their shallow scrapes in this hard ferrous soil.

So, given the tough season and tougher conditions, the 2013 Ironscraper is a wine that suits its name. Deep crimson in colour its special personality is its length and grip – helped along with an almost imperceptible touch of Barossa Cabernet. We think it is an exciting wine that fleshes out our range, complementing the Marananga Shiraz and Lepus Shiraz.

The 2013 Marananga and Lepus will be released early in 2016, both exquisite wines, showcasing their own individual Hare's Chase character... what a threesome!

Don't forget our Lepus has been awarded 98 points in James Halliday's 2015 Wine Companion and was presented at the Australian Wine Companion Awards as one of the top 3 Shiraz in Australia!
2010 Vintage sold out quickly, but look out for the 2013 Lepus release in early 2016!
