2013 Marananga Shiraz
The low yielding old vines and the shallow red brown earths of our Marananga vineyard, provide the backbone and complexity for this elegant Barossa Shiraz, finessed with a touch of American oak.
It has the concentration and fruit definition to complement robust red meats - even hare if you're game.
Deep, dense, plum red.
Complex aromas, cashews and dark berries.
Great balance, a strong vintage with powerful flavours, silky mid-palate and a wonderful tannin length. This wine gets better every time I taste it, nuts, vanilla, plums and a rich dark chocolate flavour. This wine needed more time in oak to bring it together, I was tempted to introduce more new oak because of the fruit intensity but I am pleased now that I resisted.
This has been made with great skill, for while it has the alcohol, fruit power and depth, tannins and American oak that mark it as Barossa Valley and nothing else, it has an open weave, a lightness of touch rarely encountered. Great value, its future guaranteed by its balance.
