The Vineyard

Hare's Chase is situated near the small village of Marananga in the Barossa Valley region of South Australia. The Barossa Valley's first vineyards were planted over 150 years ago, and the area since has become well known for it's rich, full flavoured and deeply coloured wines. The Marananga Valley is on the western side of the North Para River which runs through the centre of the Barossa. It is a small, distinctly different sub-region which boasts some of the best red soil available for dry grown viticulture. It has quickly become recognised as the 'jewel within the jewel' of the Barossa.

The winery sits at the top of a rocky hill in the centre of the 100 year old vineyard, commanding views of all the Marananga Valley which is, in turn, framed by the Barossa Ranges. The limited access to water and the low annual rainfall means that the vines rely on the water holding capacity of the red clay based soil to survive throughout the growing season. Under these conditions, the vines can only support a small crop, which guarantees ripe, concentrated flavours in the grapes; qualities which are reflected in our hand made premium wines.
