[2005 RED BLEND]

James Halliday
"A bright and fresh array of fruit aromas from this interesting Joseph's Coat blend of Shiraz, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Tempranillo. Soft tannins and an appealing aftertaste"  90 points

Robert Parker
"It's a no-brainer that consumers should be searching for the 2005 Barossa Red Blend, a forward, supple, soulful, American oak-aged concoction of Shiraz, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Tempranillo. Peppery, spicy, new saddle leather, red currant, cedar, and blackberry aromas and flavours along with an excellent texture, forward style, and luscious fruit suggest it should drink well for 3-4 years"  89 points

Colour
Mulberry red, purple.

Nose
The aroma has intense raspberry and cherry fruit characters balanced by sweet vanilla from the oak barrels.

Palate
The taste is a complex combination of rich fruit flavours as would be expected from a wine containing five different varietals. Shiraz is the major influence in the blend and contributes to the palate with weight and plum flavours. Although less prominent, the Merlot's supple tannins and fruit impact remain influential while the Cabernet Franc plays a major part in the tannin structure and perfume of the wine.Hints of ripe black cherry and blackberry, from small percentages of Cabernet Sauvignon and Tempranillo, compliment the total wine flavour. The overall palate is balanced by natural, subtle tannins which give the wine a lovely prolonged finish.

General
As we get to know the older vintages of our Blend, our understanding of its development increases. This wine will be drinking well for at least five years. Although lighter in style than our Shiraz, the Blend is also made from grapes grown on our own vineyard thus sharing the same inherent qualities of our low-yielding vines.
